How to configure your Cross Hotbars UI Settings to automatically switch between a neutral hotbar and a combat hotbar when entering and exiting battles.
Final Fantasy XIV is a huge game with lots of ways to customize your experience. One of the things that the game does really well is in its controller support.
If you play in Controller Mode, you can set your Cross Hotbars to automatically switch to a different Hotbar whenever you go into battle stance. This frees you up from having to manually switch to the correct hotbar every time you’re coming in and out of combat.
Configure the UI for use with a controller, such as a DualShock 4 on your PS4 or PC, by toggling the Mouse/Controller Mode switch in the Character Configuration settings. This will change the UI in places to optimize for use with a controller.
Character → Character Settings
Turn on Auto-sheathe weapon when not in battle. Setting Auto-sheathe Delay to 3 seconds works fine, but you can set it to your preference. These settings will allow for your character to automatically switch stances when coming out of battle.
Set Selection → PvE Settings → Set Selection
Enable auto hotbar switching when drawing/sheating weapon lets you select which Hotbars are readily available when your weapon is drawn or sheathed - turn this on (you’ll still be able to manually switch to any of the 8 hotbars by holdig R1).
- Turn on Enable customization for when weapon is sheathed. and select only Hotbar 8. This will be the default hotbar when not in combat.
- Turn on Enable customization for when weapon is drawn and select only Hotbar 1. This will be the default hotbar when you enter combat.
Set the Auto-attack action to the X button on Hotbar 8. This will allow you to easily enter battle and go into combat stance from neutral which will toggle your hotbar to Hotbar 1. When all attacking enemies are gone, you’ll automatically sheathe your weapon and your hotbars will automatically revert back to Hotbar 8.
Hotbar 8 should also contain your most commonly used actions when not in combat, such as the Character Sheet, Items, Teleport, Mount, and other actions.
Quality of Life: Shared Hotbars
Sharing → Shared Hotbar → Cross Hotbar
This controls which Cross Hotbars are shared between classes. This allows you to assign specific Hotbars as “Global” Hotbars. Turn off sharing for Hotbars 1 through 4, and turn them on for Hotbars 5 through 8.
Hotbars 1-3 will be reserved for in combat actions specific to your current class. These hotbars will contain most of your class actions and attacks.
Hotbars 4-8 will be globally accessible for cross-class actions such as Auto-Attack, Sprint, or menu actions. Since they’re shared, you won’t have to re-set actions to these hotbars when switching classes.
XIV Bars is an app for simulatiing your Final Fantasy XIV W Cross Hotbar (WXHB) configuration. Plan and simulate what your hotbar setup could look like with a gamepad or controller. Use the Class selector to load actions for that class. Drag and drop them to the hotbar slots below.
